Upon Leslie Bryan's retirement from the University of Illinois in 1968, United Airlines gave the university a 64-passenger, four-engine airliner in his honor.

Thirty-three years ago today —June 24, 1985— longtime University of Illinois faculty representative Leslie Bryan died at the age of 85. From 1959-68, he represented the university and its faculty in the UI's relationships with the NCAA and the Big Ten, and also chaired UI's Athletic Council, the faculty's voice on issues of academic policy related to student-athletes.

Kendziera takes 5th in 400 hurdles

The Illinois graduate took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles finals in Saturday's U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships and will contest the 110 high hurdles in today's 2:30 p.m. semifinals.

DES MOINES, Iowa —Former Illinois hurdler David Kendziera just keeps going on the national stage. And he's not done yet, either.

Kendziera finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles finals Saturday at the 2018 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 49.22 seconds — nearly a second faster than his opening-round clocking.
